I joined eharmony as a brand design/art direction capacity in 2022 to help shape their approach to their visual identity rebrand, which is currently in the roll-out process. As a legacy brand with high visibility but low consideration, they were looking to evolve past their roots as a dating app for people who want to get married, drive new conversations around dating and love, and establish themselves as the dating app for people who know that it takes time and care to know and be known. We developed a brand identity that caringly references the warmth and fuzzy nostalgia of classic cinema, positioning eharmony as The Narrator—an omniscient presence that engages the audience on both an intellectual and emotional level, creates a stronger connection to the Main Character in all of us, and adds a memorable layer of personality and texture to the tone of the story. Visually, we evoked a 'slow' approach through subtle reference to textures and patinas of slower, analog image-making (i.e. film photography), centering the pleasure in the process of getting to know someone.
